The Schachgesellschaft Solingen on the Birkerstraße runs the Solinger Karnevals-Open, a rated weekend in February, and the open Solingen city championship in Friday rounds from September to December, and it hosts the city’s school chess championships. Its youth players take part in the district youth championships, and several of its teams play in the Lower Rhine leagues.
The chess department of the Ohligser Turnverein 1888 holds a Thursday training evening for seniors in the library room of the OTV hall, and the Schachclub Solingen 1928 meets on Friday evenings, with its internal tournaments starting a little later and guests welcome. The Solinger Sparkassen Jugend-Open, a rated youth tournament, gave 26 and 27 October as the dates of its 2026 edition.
